Scarborough Chess Congress Planning is underway for the 2021 Congress. Entries are being taken. Current Covid policy (as at 10/10) given below .

2021 Details

This year's Scarborough Chess Congress was held in the Spa Centre from the 29th until the 31st of October 2021.

There will be five sections, the Foundation (U1351), Minor (U1551), Intermediate (U1701), Major (U1851) and Open. Download Event PDF for more information about the congress and to send postal entries.

Grading

This should be your highest British grade unless it is an ECF F one in which case other national take precedence.


The Aug 2021 ECF rating list will be used. Players not in possession of a current rating must state their last published grade and the year to which it applied. Players with no official grading must give an estimate of their playing strength with evidence or a reference by a known player. In all matters the Arbiters decision is final. Ungraded players are not eligible for Grading Prizes.

Rate of Play

In all sections: All moves in 110 minutes with 10 second increment added with each move.


Round Times

Round 1: Friday October 29th 7.00pm to 11.00pm.
Round 2: Saturday October 30th 9.30am to 1.30pm
Round 3: Saturday October 30th 2.15pm to 6.15pm
Round 4: Sunday October 31st 9.30am to 1.30pm
Round 5: Sunday October 31st 2.15pm to 6.15pm

Prize giving - Prizes will be sent within 14 days.

At the Scarborough Chess Congress we have a section for every ability, ranging from beginers in the foundation to masters in the open.

Corona Virus

We hope that the crisis will be contained by the time of this event. If it does go ahead the organisers will take any required steps possible.

Qualified Arbiters

The Scarborough Chess Congress is run by FIDE titled arbiters.

All Ages Welcome

People from all over the UK and all ages come to play at the Scarborough chess congress. We have Junior and Veteran prizes.

High Standard Open

Masters and strong players from all over the UK come to Scarborough to take part in Scarboroughs Open.

Scarborough Chess Venue

The Spa is a multi purpose venue on the Yorkshire coast, it has held the Scarborough Chess Congress for many years. The spa provides places to analyse games, places to eat and other entertainment.
