much does it cost to join? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attention New Members!! The first night is free as always, then for the whole of your first season, instead of £10 a month, it's "pay-as-you-play" with £3 board fees only on the nights you turn up. So drop in and try us out! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Does the Club play in a League? We have teams in the Glasgow, Dunbartonshire and Lanarkshire Leagues, though we no longer play in the Scottish National Chess League (SNCL). League matches start at 7.30, Wilson matches 7.45. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- What about Club Competitions? There are 4 internal club Competitions; the Wilson Trophy, the Club Championship, the Gosetti and the Sword of Damocles. At the end of the season we have a 10-round Rapidplay tournament played over 2 nights, the Allegro Cup. Club Secretary Graham Dobbie presents Jeff Dunn with the Gosetti Trophy (left) for the highest percentage of league wins for the club throughout the season, and the Sword of Damocles Trophy (right) for the player with the largest increase in grade in the club all year!
Ben Horne receives the Allegro Cup for the most points gained over 9 rounds in our annual speed chess event!
Alastair Stewart wins the Wilson Trophy for the highest number of points obtained in graded games on club nights over the whole season, either playing in a team or in individual matches.
This year's Club Championship was a 4-way tie, (the first since season 2003-04!) between (L-R) Frankie Murray, Graham Dobbie, Jeff Dunn and Jim Robertson who will share possession of our brand new Club Championship Trophy when it arrives. Prizewinners 2024-25 Season Tom Brisbane won the Wilson and the Sword of Damocles Trophies. Frankie Murray won the Club Championship and Jeff Dunn won the Gosetti Trophy. Prizewinners 2023-24 Season Alastair Stewart is our new Club Champion! Jim Robertson won the Sword of Damocles, while the Wilson Trophy was shared between Frankie Murray and John Marno, who also won the Gosetti. Tom Brisbane won the Allegro Cup. Congratulations to all the worthy winners! Prizewinners 2022-23 Season Jim Johnston becomes only the third person to complete the "Grand Slam", winning the Gosetti, Sword of Damocles and Wilson Trophies in the same season, 2022-23. Ian MacKenzie won the Club Championship and Graham Dobbie the Allegro Cup.(Roll of Honour)

EK Webmaster Jim Johnston was presented with a Quaich by the Glasgow and Dunbartonshire Leagues for services rendered as League Controller over many years, along with John Mc Cartan of Dalmuir. Tony Wins The Gosetti Trophy 2017!
Club Secretary Graham Dobbie presents Tony Dunlop with the Gosetti Trophy for gaining the most points playing league matches for the club throughout the season. Tony has also completed a hat-trick by winning the other 2 main club trophies, the Sword of Damocles for the biggest jump in grade in one season, and the Wilson Trophy for winning the most graded games on club nights all season. This feat, winning the "Grand Slam", has only been achieved once before, ten years ago, in 2006-7 by Duncan McDonald. 2013's winner, Tom Brisbane, presents the Gosetti Trophy to this year's winner, Jim Johnston. The prize is for the person who has gained the most points playing league matches for the club in the season. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On 07 January 2016 (for the 11th year in a row) we welcomed in the New Year with a Simultaneous Exhibition given by Stephen Burns-Mannion I.M.

Thomas Jose (left) won the Sword of Damocles Trophy for the biggest grading jump in one year; Graham Dobbie (centre) won the Gosetti Trophy for the best percentage of wins for the club in League matches, and is also joint Club Champion; Tony Dunlop (right) is holding the SNCL Division 2 Winners Shield as we are now back in Division 1, and also the Wilson Trophy which he won for being the most consistent player of the year in graded games.
