The new season starts again this Thursday, October 12, with Round 1 of the Wilson Trophy. All fixtures are online, Glasgow, Dunbartonshire and Lanarkshire. We currently have around 12 regular members and always welcome any new additions (see Club Constitution). Contact Graham Dobbie (Secretary) at 07724 742 741. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- How much does it cost to join? We have waived the Membership Fees (11th time!), for the whole of season 2019-20. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attention New Members!! The first night is free as always, then for the whole of your first season, instead of £12.50 a month, it's "pay-as-you-play" with £3 board fees only on the nights you turn up. So drop in and try us out! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Does the Club play in a League? We have teams in the Glasgow, Dunbartonshire and Lanarkshire Leagues, and we also play in the Scottish National Chess League (SNCL). League matches start at 7.30, Wilson matches 7.45. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- What about Club Competitions? There are 4 internal club Competitions; the Wilson Trophy, the Club Championship, the Gosetti and the Sword of Damocles. At the end of the season we have a 10-round Rapidplay tournament played over 2 nights, the Allegro Cup. Although retired as League Controller, Jim still does the fixtures for both Leagues every year, and runs their websites. Tony Wins The Gosetti Trophy 2017! Club Secretary Graham Dobbie presents Tony Dunlop with the Gosetti Trophy for gaining the most points playing league matches for the club throughout the season. Tony has also completed a hat-trick by winning the other 2 main club trophies, the Sword of Damocles for the biggest jump in grade in one season, and the Wilson Trophy for winning the most graded games on club nights all season. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Alan Jelfs is Club Champion 2017! The prize is for the person who has gained the most points playing league matches for the club in the season. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On 07 January 2016 (for the 11th year in a row) we welcomed in the New Year with a Simultaneous Exhibition given by Stephen Burns-Mannion I.M. 2013: Tom Brisbane (centre) and Tony Dunlop both won their games. Thomas Jose (left) won the Sword of Damocles Trophy for the biggest grading jump in one year; Graham Dobbie (centre) won the Gosetti Trophy for the best percentage of wins for the club in League matches, and is also joint Club Champion; Tony Dunlop (right) is holding the SNCL Division 2 Winners Shield as we are now back in Division 1, and also the Wilson Trophy which he won for being the most consistent player of the year in graded games.
